Managing acid reflux during pregnancy

Acid reflux is a common discomfort during pregnancy. Here's a guide to help you prevent and relieve it. 😊

Why do I have acid reflux during pregnancy?

Reflux is caused by hormonal changes and the pressure the baby puts on the stomach. Pregnancy hormones relax the muscles of the esophagus, making it easier for stomach acid to flow back up.

When do they occur?

Acid reflux can occur at any time during pregnancy, but it is often more common in the third trimester due to the size of the baby putting extra pressure on the stomach.

What foods should I avoid?

Certain foods can aggravate acid reflux. It's best to avoid spicy, fatty, and acidic foods like citrus fruits and tomatoes, as well as chocolate, caffeine, and carbonated drinks. Choose light, small meals to reduce the strain on your stomach.

Be careful 🚨 we often recommend drinking fresh cow's milk as a soothing remedy, but even if it will relieve you at the time, your symptoms will worsen later! We give you our best advice right here ⬇️

What natural remedies are there for acid reflux?

- You can mix green clay in a glass of water, let it sit and when the clay is at the bottom of the glass, drink without stirring.

- You can consume lithothamnium powder in water or in capsules. You can find it in pharmacies or health food stores.

- You can also drink pineapple juice or almond milk. The extracts they contain (enzymes, bromelain, etc.) are known for their soothing properties.

- Some infusions can also help you a lot, like those made from marshmallow roots, lemon balm, or German chamomile. In fact, our first-trimester and third-trimester infusions contain plants that will help relieve your acid reflux! What are you waiting for?

And what positions should you favor against pregnancy reflux?

- We advise you to stay standing after eating, lying down immediately after meals can aggravate acid reflux.

-Sleeping with your head elevated, using several pillows or a wedge under the mattress, can also help prevent nighttime reflux.

Also try sleeping on your left side and elevating your head about six inches. Why the left side? Because The stomach is a curved organ with the majority of its volume located on the left side of the upper abdomen!
